What edition does SCoD use, and how do I find Planescape lore?[]
Sigil: City of Doors uses 2nd edition Planescape lore, except where otherwise noted. In our chronology, neither Die Vecna Die! nor Faction War have taken place.
You can find Planescape lore on this wiki, but here are some other great resources:

Is SCOD an action, social or RP heavy server?[]
SCoD is a casual Roleplay server. We support both serious story-tellers and more action focused players.
What races are allowed? Do I need to fill in an application to play certain races?[]
We do not require applications to play any race. If you can pick it during character creation, you can play it. You can view the full list of races available to play on SCoD here.
Anything I should know before picking a race?[]
If you're thinking of making a giant, or other large race, you will want to read the information on Large and Huge Races.
If you're thinking of making a "monster" race character, be aware that certain races cannot wield normal weapons. If you are one of these races, you should get a creature weapon when you logged in. These function like normal weapons, but have no appearance. You can read more about them here.
Flurry of Blows does not work with creature weapons. If you want to play a dex-focused race take monk and fight unarmed.
Generally races with high ECL are a poor choice for casters as they suffer greatly from getting "high-level-spells" later as others do. ECL+4 is still good, while +8 should be only played by experienced players.
Can I play a character with low strength?[]
Yes. Just get a magical bag for your loot. Some players at the bazaar can craft some with - 20% - 100% weight reduce. See Enchantments
Why do NPC merchants only offer one gold for my items?[]
Most NPC merchants do not buy items, or will only offer one gold. You can sell items for a maximum of 300 gold to peddlers, and you can sell scrolls and crafting materials to Minerva in the Great Bazaar for a maximum of 50 gold.
How can I get money?[]
You can sell scrolls and distillable items for up to 50 gold to Minerva in the Great Bazaar and other items for up to 300 gold to one of the Peddlers. Low level quests are also a good source for gold and can be done every day. Doing all the starter quests will get you several thousand gold, which will allow you to afford +2/+3 equipment from the merchants in the Bazaar.
You should also keep any items that can be distilled into essences. Crafter are always short of Frozen Giant Heads, Demon Blood, and such. If you find frozen arrows, don't sell the full stack as two single arrows are worth 180 gold and a stack of 20 can easily sold for a few thousand Jink.
What happens when my character dies?[]
You respawn in the mortuary. You lose 1% of XP (cannot lose level) and 50GP for every level > 3 .. You can avoid the gold loss if you convert all your gold into planar coinage at the bazaar. It will cost you 25 gold*level if you want to port back to the place you died.
The enemies are too easy/difficult. How do I change the difficulty?[]
SCoD has four different difficulties. You should have a button on your screen that allows you to switch between them.
In addition, you have an item called "Your Essence" in your inventory. Right-click and use it on yourself. A window pops up with different options like "Scrying tool (to see where other peoples are) and "Difficulty settings".
There are four different difficulties, with gatecrasher the hardest. The XP you gain depends on the difficulty and thus is often set to Gatecrusher within parties.
How can I customize my character's appearance?[]
There are armor Appearance Changers accessible from the OOC Room and the Civic Festhall. There is also a Barber in the OOC Room, who can change your hair appearance temporarily.
How do I set my characters Alternate Appearance?[]
Some of the races on SCoD have the ability to Change Self, or to have an Alternate Form. These races share the same interface and will largely act the same, no matter what race that has the abilities you are using. Dragons, Night Hags, Succubi, Changlings, and Brachina all have this ability to some degree.
The ability in question is a feat, that will either be preloaded to your hotbar when you first log in, or might need to be dragged to your hotbar from your Feat page, in your character sheet. Activate the feat to start the dialogue. It should look like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1008785502205390940/1008785520458997770/unknown.png
Now, pay attention to the wording in the dialogue! Once you have started to set your alternate appearance, you CANNOT exit the process, without saving your current look as your alternate form. This alternate form cannot be changed on Dragons, for instance, without completely remaking the character.
Once you have started to set your alternate appearance, you will see a screen that looks like this:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1008785502205390940/1008785593821564968/unknown.png
Note that you can set a variety of things in the left columns, including the race, gender, head (or face), hair style, and the presence of facial hair, tails, or wings on models that support them. In the right hand column, you can set the color of your alternate forms skin, hair accessory, hair main color, hair highlight color & eyebrow color by using the "Pick Color" buttons, next to the appropriate box.
Using the Apply Changes button, will apply your current selections to your character, so you can see how they look:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1008785502205390940/1008786460440268860/unknown.png
THIS DOES NOT SAVE THE APPEARANCE. You can continue making changes so long as the interface remains open. You can flip through hair styles, faces, and adjust colors to your hearts content, using "apply changes" to show the changes you make on the character model.
The appearance changer doesn't work for me. How can I change my appearance?[]
If you are playing a "monster" race, your appearance options may be limited, or the appearance changer may not work for you. Granall in the OOC Room sells alternate monster race appearances. The appearance can also be added to any other found piece of the same type via the Clone Armour Appearance NPC at the Civic Festhall in the Clerk's Ward.
You can also find creature appearance "accessories" like hoof boots, bird feet, and claws in Granall's shop.
How do I change my biography description, examine details, etc.?[]
Right-click on your character, "Edit Bio".
How do I format the text in conversations and item descriptions?[]

What are Factions and why do they matter?[]
The Factions are fifteen organizations, each with their own philosophy, who inhabit and govern Sigil. They can be viewed as fifteen different takes on alignment and the outer planes. They are sometimes described as "philosophers with clubs" but they are not PvP factions. Most conflict stays in the political arena.
Practically speaking, thirteen of the factions form the governing body of Sigil, and everyone who is anyone in the City of Doors is a member of a faction.
Player characters can (and are encouraged to) join a faction when they find one that fits, and can advance in their chosen faction up to the rank of Factor (or equivalent). The leaders of the factions (Factols) are always DM controlled.
How do I find other people?[]
If you are looking for people to roleplay with, you can usually find a few in the Great Bazaar. We also have a scry tool, which you can access from your DMFI GUI.
If you are looking for a group, you can also ask on our Server Discord (the Discord link is in the header of our website here: https://nwn2planescape.com/)
