Sigil NWN2 PW Wiki

Surprising as many Cagers might find it, not everybody on the Great Ring ascribes to one of their factions. For one thing, there are a lot of backwood communities that've never even heard of Sigil. And then there are those folk who have heard of Sigil, but figure it's just some pretentious madhouse that doesn't hold much significance to their lives. These folk have their own irons in the fire, which means they have their own way of looking at things.

Sometimes those distinctive ways of looking at things are held in common by enough people that they rival a faction in significance, at least locally. That world view is referred to as a sect. To put it more simply, while factions are groups centred in Sigil with a specific world view, sects are those without a recognised seat in Sigil.

Sects of the Planes[]

So you wanna know all about every single Sect there ever was? Do I look like a Mimir to you, berk? 'cos that's who you'd best ask. ((Editor's note: Mimir.net is a great resource, and you can assume that MOST of the stuff on there's probably canon enough, but it won't be up to date with our server's lore, so think about what chant you trust! - stev))

  • The Anarchists, the Revolutionary League - a recently demoted ex-Faction, a Sect of rebels devoted to the cause of rebellion itself

  • The Archonites - worshippers of the Archons of Mount Celestia
  • The Bleeders, the Society of Pain - a Gehennan mirror to the Society of Sensation, chasing transcendence through pain
  • The Carpet Knights, the Children of the Vine - an even more hedonist Arborean splinter-Sect off the Society of Sensation
  • The Communals, the Comrades - an old ex-Faction, cut down by the Lady for demanding She share Her powers with all of Sigil
  • The Converts, the Turncoats - confusing Limbo-aligned bashers who convert wholly to a different philosophy every cycle

  • The Expansionists, the Growers - an ancient ex-Faction, cut down by the Lady for trying to expand their grip over all of Sigil
  • The Guardians, the Caretakers - Good-aligned defenders and protectors of the Upper Planes
  • The Guild of Shadows - a foolish conspiracy theory about a shadow government that doesn't exist, not at all, who told you about it?
  • The Hollow, the Faithless, the Eaters - monsters chased out of the Athar, immortal through the consumption of others' belief
  • The Incantifiers, the Magicians - an old ex-Faction of magic-consuming immortal arcanists, cut down by the Lady for unknown reasons
  • The Legislate, the Legislators - a Guvner splinter-Sect of Mechanus, believing ultimate law stems only from those with the power to write the laws themselves
  • The Mathmeticians - a Guvner splinter-Sect of Mechanus, believing the whole 'verse runs on mathematical rules instead of laws
  • The Merkhants, the Hidden Hand - a mercantile Sect believing one's worth is the sum of one's wealth, allies of the Fated
  • The Planes Militant, the Brethren - an aggressively anti-Evil Sect crusading out from Mount Celestia
  • The Plane Tenders, the Priests of the Wilds - an isolationist Druidic Sect dedicated to protecting all life from entropy, natural enemies of the Doomguard and the Dustmen
  • The Prolongers, the Cheaters - an ancient, loosely-aligned group of accidental immortals, draining others' life essence to live forever
  • The Revivalists, the Backwards - nostalgic longbeards using chronomancy to try and bring back the good ol' days
  • The Ring-Givers, the Beggars - an ex-Sect, recently elevated to Factionhood, who tip the scales of karmic balance by giving away all they have
  • The Symmetrists, the Closers - an ancient ex-Faction, cut down by the Lady for trying to shut down Sigil's portals
  • The Vile Hunters - a load of lemons who believe, paradoxically, that the Beastlands ain't supposed to have beasts in
  • The Wylders, the Verdant Guild - a Beastlands Sect that venerates all of nature, both cruel and benign
  • The Xaoticians - yet another Guvner splinter-Sect but with heavy Xecstaiot influences, obsessed with defining the laws of a grand unifying theory of Chaos

((Editor's note: This list isn't anywhere near finished. If you've got a source for a Sect, feel free to add it! Please just follow the conventions of the page. - stev))
